fashion: D&G send out the big chests for men in SS/12 . . .

24 Jun

Are you a D&G man?  Well chances are you might very well feel like one, but bigger chance is you probably don’t look like one.  Well that is unless you look like one of Milan’s finest models – especially if you’re planning on wearing next seasons look which is something like an ethnic safari – not we’re not entirely sure what it means either . . . but what we do know is that this collection is not for mere mortals.

fashion: Never a collection for H&M? Versace backtracks . . .

Going back slightly on comments she made to Italian Vogue back in 2008 that she would never produce a collection for H&M as it would ‘confuse the brand’ Donatella Versace has laid out her plans for the next superstar collection for the Swedish discount retailer due to drop this Autumn, could it have anything to do with the rumoured 350 staff that have been laid off this year alone at the former powerhouse?

H&M announced its latest designer collaboration with one of the world’s most iconic fashion brands Versace following the latest bow of menswear for SS/12 in Milan. Launching in Autumn 2011 and designed by Donatella herself, the men’s and women’s collection will reference the heritage of the brand with Rock ‘n’ Roll influences – which will even spill over into some homewear pieces.  Donatella took to the catwalk last night following the Versace men’s catwalk show during Milan Fashion Week (above) to preview one of the pieces prior to the official announcement this morning.  Available from 17th November in 300 stores nationwide and online you can expect lots of leather plus a vibrancy of print, colour and exuberance.  Donatella has also designed a pre-spring collection for H&M that launches from 19th January 2012.

design: set sail this Summer with Aquariva, by Gucci and Riva

15 Apr

Do you have a spare $750,000 laying around?  Were you looking for something to occupy your spare time with this Summer? A big fan of Italian craftsmanship, and luxury brands?  Then look no further . . .

Unveiled at last Summers International Boat show in Cannes (yup, they do have more than just a film festival after-all!) the Aquariva by Gucci and Italian boat manufacturer Riva is made to order and my what an order it is too . . .

Speaking exclusively about the launch creative director of Gucci, Frida Giannini, said, “Over the decades the iconic Riva boat has become without doubt one of the most evocative images of Italian style, sophistication and elegance. It is a symbol of a glamorous lifestyle that sparks fond memories of La Dolce Vita – a golden age when both Gucci and Riva attracted an enthusiastic following among the international jet set.It is therefore especially meaningful in Gucci’s 90th anniversary year to be able to recognise and celebrate the great traditions and values of both Gucci and Riva through the Aquariva by Gucci.”

Though it isn’t just for the mega-rich.  Gucci has also released an accessories line available in retail outlets across the world – so we can all lay our aquariva towel on the beach, and pretend that yacht is the one we just jumped off . . .

fashion: Jennifer Lopez strikes a pose for Tous.

14 Apr

Jennifer Lopez is enjoying something of a career revival, with high strikes on both the Billboard and international charts and her success on American Idol.  Stepping out as the face for jewellery brand Tous for their new Spanish-designed Oriente jewellery collection she strikes a fun, feminine pose, in a colorful ad campaign photographed by the prestigious Ellen von Unwerth.

Geishas inspired this collection, which features eastern symbols on kimono prints and fans, and lotus flowers on delicate pieces of jewelry combining gold with natural gems and diamonds.

A few months ago we heard that Jennifer Lopez was to take Kylie Minogue’s place as the face of Tous. The brand signed the sexy Latina with the aim of opening new horizons across the Atlantic. Rosa Tous traveled to Los Angeles to supervise the photo-shoot for this spring summer line, which is already available in Tous outlets all over the world.

fashion: hotness! Jessica Alba for Italian Vogue

12 Apr

Speaking exclusively to Italian Vogue, for their latest issue.  Jessica Alba says that “Fashion represents one’s identity” and goes onto say that “After the pregnancy, I felt liberated. I learnt to accept my body and to give less importance to my appearance”.  Given that the fantastic-4 star is currently pregnant with her second child we can’t imagine where that liberation might take her from this raunchy shoot, but whatever the direction, it looks set to heat the mercury – that’s for sure!

design: Karl does Coca-Cola light.

9 Apr

Now we love Karl.  Seriously.  Love.  The chinese takeaway bag for Chanel,  the irony shown with the Karl who shopper, and of course who could forget the Shanghai fashion show,  but we never expected this . . .

Of course Karl himself is no stranger to dieting, he who used to be quite literally the biggest man in fashion has slimmed down drastically in recent years – and now we see him designing his own range of bottles for Coke light, and accompanying ad campaign.

Bravo Coke – now.  Who’s next?

fashion: Christophe Decarnin’s departure from Balmain.

8 Apr

His designs have single handedly made the 80’s cool again.  His influence SO great that his was the show not only the high street but also his peers looked to as a thumb in the air for the season ahead, but alas no more Christophe at Balmain.

Cathy Horyn writing in the New York Times has hinted that Christophe Decarnin’s departure from the fashion house he made into such a success may be because of, rather than despite, the glory years of Balmania, and the consequent pressure to come up with a new, equally profitable formula.

Ms Horyn, who knows M. Decarnin personally, also points to the fact that he is a ‘shy and introverted,’ individual, who ‘may have been more vulnerable than others to that pressure.’ We will watch and wait and see whether Decarnin will chose to re-enter the fashion fray, or if he’ll go the way of Helmut Lang (who is now an artist), or Hedi Slimane (photographer).

One more thing – the successor to Decarnin is thought to be someone already working at Balmain, a former member of his team. Horyn wonders if this will turn out to be British stylist, Melanie Ward. She is an extremely interesting character, who made her name styling Kate Moss, and working with the photographer Corine Day, as part of a sort of dynamic trio. WATCH THIS SPACE, readers!
