design: topshop get’s folky!

3 Oct

For the latest in the AP. series; topshop we headed out to London’s Lamb’s conduit Street and to the new Folk clothing store.  Folk has long been hidden under the radar of whats hot and trendy in the capital, and the new store encompasses everything the brand stands for.

Focus on materials and attention to detail that flow through the range are evident throughout the store design too with rope hung lighting, rails and shelving crafted from old shelving, and marble heads from sculptor Paul Vanstone.

Marc Jacobs is, it would seem a secret bibliophile.

Marc has opened a new store on Manhattan’s Bleecker Street named Bookmarc, which will be home to a careful selection of book titles and Marc Jacobs stationery products.

Looks like we’ll all be closing our iPads and writing letters again after all . . .

fashion: chanel cruise & crystal renn, again!

7 Sep

Say hellow to St Tropez, again, for the Chanel cruise.

Yup you could be forgiven for thinking that you’d seen it all before.  St Tropez, check, Chanel, check, Crystal Renn, check, check and check.  But it seem’s like Mr Chanel, Karl, has a thing for plus size girls and a motorbike.

Crystal Renn (above) recent star of the chanel campaign for their new SoHo store (see it here!) was back on the catwalk, and as she has said of working with Chanel “living out her dreams”, though the real star of the cruise collection was the bike . . .

as you can see from our earlier post on the new Keira Knightley Chanel ad, perhaps this is the start of a real trend for next Spring Summer . . . time to dust of those James Dean’s!!!

fashion: keira knightley’s new chanel ad

7 Sep

Keira Knightley was first named a face of Chanel back in 2006; shortly after she began appearing in the brand’s Coco Mademoiselle fragrance ads.

Now it seems she’s refreshing her partnership with the brand: this past Saturday, she was snapped at the Place de la Concorde in Paris, reportedly filming a Chanel commercial in a camel suede jumpsuit and matching cap-toed boots. Knightley, who was captured riding a Ducati motorcycle, had a stunt double on set, and was at one point surrounded by a cadre of motorcycle-riding men in black jumpsuits and helmets, well I should coco!

fashion: kate moss looses out in topshop shake up.

2 Sep

It was a marriage made in retail heaven, and made an international star out of not only the british supermodel, but also out of her ‘uncle phil’ the legendary head of the global cheap chic fashion chain, topshop.  Now though it does look like topshop gathers no moss as the mega famous chain has dropped its collection with the famous model (instyle).

Phillip Green said in a statement it was due to other commitments and the collection taking up too much of her time, whilst reports state that it was due to his fury at her branching out into fragrance and an exclusive handbag collection with longchamp earlier this year.  Either way what is clear is that the collection hasn’t been as commercially successful as the retailer had hoped, and as with the retailer parting ways with former head Jane Sheperdson could just be ‘uncle phils’ way of showing that the brand is bigger than the person . . .

fashion: aleander wang is no longer homeless

31 Aug

Alexander Wang has been secretive about his rumored Manhattan flagship, and although he’s still being tight-lipped about the interior, he has confirmed the location of his first store, which will be open by the end of this year: 103 Grand Street, in a SoHo space formerly occupied by Yohji Yamamoto (pictured below). “It’s a perfect, iconic location, and there is a massive amount of windows” Wang says to vogue, adding that he plans to bring “a new perspective on luxury”.

C’mon Alexander, when are we going to get a stire right here in London, now that’d be iconic!
