fashion: D&G send out the big chests for men in SS/12 . . .

24 Jun

Are you a D&G man?  Well chances are you might very well feel like one, but bigger chance is you probably don’t look like one.  Well that is unless you look like one of Milan’s finest models – especially if you’re planning on wearing next seasons look which is something like an ethnic safari – not we’re not entirely sure what it means either . . . but what we do know is that this collection is not for mere mortals.

Going back slightly on comments she made to Italian Vogue back in 2008 that she would never produce a collection for H&M as it would ‘confuse the brand’ Donatella Versace has laid out her plans for the next superstar collection for the Swedish discount retailer due to drop this Autumn, could it have anything to do with the rumoured 350 staff that have been laid off this year alone at the former powerhouse?

H&M announced its latest designer collaboration with one of the world’s most iconic fashion brands Versace following the latest bow of menswear for SS/12 in Milan. Launching in Autumn 2011 and designed by Donatella herself, the men’s and women’s collection will reference the heritage of the brand with Rock ‘n’ Roll influences – which will even spill over into some homewear pieces.  Donatella took to the catwalk last night following the Versace men’s catwalk show during Milan Fashion Week (above) to preview one of the pieces prior to the official announcement this morning.  Available from 17th November in 300 stores nationwide and online you can expect lots of leather plus a vibrancy of print, colour and exuberance.  Donatella has also designed a pre-spring collection for H&M that launches from 19th January 2012.

fashion: everything Privé was missing . . .

1 Mar

Armani rose to the challenge at MFW to show that he still gets todays consumer, in fact more so than some of his contemporaries.  After the Privé show earlier this year which marked a massive departure for the designer, to a more modern silhouette, influenced some said by the designers fledgling friendship with none other than Lady GaGa.  This collection marked a return to the form we’re all familiar with, beautiful detailing, even romantic product.  Every girl is sure to wish they were in Armani this Autumn Winter . . .

fashion: Tina Turner wows Milan

1 Mar

The biggest head turner at Milan fashion week happened off the catwalk.  The arrival of the indomitable Tina Turner caused the eruption of applause as she took her seat for the start of the Armani show.  Proving that not only does the lady still have it, but that she’s effortless with it too – if only AP. could get a round of applause for sitting down in his seventies – now thats an achievement!

fashion: backstage at Milan fashion week, Armani ‘sorry’ for John Galliano.

28 Feb

As thick as thieves? Well, perhaps not, but in the fashion world designers stood with solidarity with one of their own.  John Galliano suffering from an initial allegation that he made racial and anti-semetic slurs in a Parisian cafe suffered another setback today with the disclosure of a fresh video showing the clearly intoxicated designer hurling abuse at fellow diners in the same cafe last December.

Speaking backstage at Milan fashion week, the Italian designer Giorgio Armani expressed his sorrow that the designer had been taped without his knowledge, during what he called “an obviously difficult time for him”

Galliano, 50, was in the French capital’s Marais district – the traditional home of the city’s Jewish & gay community – on Thursday evening, and is believed to have been drinking at café La Perle when he launched the alleged attack on Geraldine Bloch, 35, and Philippe Virgiti, 41. Galliano’s lawyer Stéphane Zerbib on Saturday that the Christian Dior designer has filed a claim of defamation and injury against the couple after visiting police at midnight on Friday to state on the record that he never made any anti-Semitic or racist comments.  Zerbib also said Galliano is “shocked” that Dior – citing a zero-tolerance policy on racism and anti-Semitism – suspended him from his job functions pending the outcome of the police investigation.
