fashion: the big 4 and milan is showing the rest of the world how its done.

24 Sep

If the barometer for next spring feels warm, then after the Prada show it just got positively tropical, because it feels like Miuccia got on a plane and went to Havana, though of course this being a Prada show it would have to be swinging 50’s Havana . . .

Only Miuccia Prada could attach a label like “minimal baroque” to a collection whose references ranged from hospital scrubs to seventeenth-century cherubs to Jazz Age superwoman Josephine Baker. Fishing around for an alternative to “fresh,” she herself came up with “brave, bold, and obvious”

Yup.  We live Prada.

fashion: burberry sets the tone for spring by revsiting its past.

23 Sep

Christopher Bailey is like a kid in a candy store with a pocket full of change when looking through the Burberry archives, and he never tires of Burberry’s illustrious past. “We can translate everything so many times and it always feels different, depending on the mood of the moment,” the designer said, referencing the outfits Thomas Burberry designed for England’s first motorbike riders in the early 1900’s.

Heritage Biker was the name of the collection, but you have to wonder what the labels founder would have thought about Baileys models with their tiny little jackets, leather leggings, and eight-inch heels. That’s because form followed function for old Mister Burberry, whereas for young Master Bailey, form follows fashion. And fashion, as the designer saw it this season, meant a super-attenuated, super-sexy, super-skintight raid on the company heritage.

Rev your engines boys and girls because Burberry has set the tone for Spring, and it is going to be hot!
