topshop: monki3

25 Mar

Joel Degermark and Catharina Frankander for Monki: the Sea of Scallops! The first location designed by agency electricdreams, is Karl Johan 15 in Oslo, opened on May 21st 2010.

According to the team behind the store; Monki’s all-new interior concept, the illusory Sea of Scallops, is a dangerous, dark and gloomy world with tantalizing beauty. It rests underneath the Secrecy, a deep dark damp cave with hidden treasures,
dangerous currents, and deceptive breakers.

If only all concept stores look like this.

design: topshop get’s folky!

3 Oct

For the latest in the AP. series; topshop we headed out to London’s Lamb’s conduit Street and to the new Folk clothing store.  Folk has long been hidden under the radar of whats hot and trendy in the capital, and the new store encompasses everything the brand stands for.

Focus on materials and attention to detail that flow through the range are evident throughout the store design too with rope hung lighting, rails and shelving crafted from old shelving, and marble heads from sculptor Paul Vanstone.

fashion: the big 4 – london fashion fashion week is off the starter blocks.

18 Sep

Back to Selfridges.  AP. was given a special preview this week of the new shoe galleries at top London department store Selfridges which opened just ahead of the launch of London Fashion week, on Thursday night.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The 35,000sqft gallerries play host to more than 55,000, yes FIFTY FIVE THOUSAND pairs of shoes, and for the Carrie Bradshaw’s out there thats a whole lotta shoe envy!  The galleries will retail 150 brands, with 30 brands creating exclusive ranges for Selfridges alone, and there are 11 designer boutiques from the likes of Christian Laboutin, Gucci, and Jimmy Choo dedicated to their footwear ranges, the Chanel area is modelled on Coco Chanel’s apartment in Paris.  “Imagine you are in a gallery”, Selfridges’ Director of Accessories Sebastian Manes, said to AP. “From the entrance you see a succession of doorways, and at the end a huge window flooding the space with daylight. Your journey begins at the front, with shoes from the best of the high street. Slowly you begin to travel through different galleries until you reach the end – the couture designer gallery, flanked by Chanel and Louboutin, and a vision of Eden – the new suspended garden at Selfridges. Shoe heaven!”

fashion: wu you believe it? fashion maverick strikes gold again.

Jason Wu, fashions current it boy has shown his latest collection at New York Fashion week, and it would seem lightening does strike the same place twice, in fact, this boy is something of a lightening conductor judging by his skill for hitting the mark time and time again.

Jason added a further 30 retail stores for the brand in a buying trip to Paris in July – for a brand that already retails in 120 outlets internationally and is just four years old thats a very impressive number, so why exactly does he keep getting it so right?  AP. couldn’t tell you for sure, but we think that the ease of which he combines high octane glamour with an easy to wear everyday chic has something to do with it.

See for yourself with this selection taken from the latest show, the clothes are hot, and we’re totally into the turban, it seems that this collection has more than a passing nod to past YSL collections . . . though we’re not sure that we’re entirely loving the toboggan run that the models are strutting along, that of course could just be us though!

fashion: while milan recovers from the night before, new york gets off to a swinging start . . .

10 Sep

So it was the morning after the night before, and while Milan was busy recovering, New York had no such chance.  Milan hosted a majorly successful event for the Vogue fashions night out, and the D-squared boys (above) looked like they were having a ball . . .

On the other side of the world – The big apple launched straight from fashions night out; the show, into fashions night out, into fashion week.  How on earth can one city take that much fashion?  Well leave it to Chanel to find the best way, Chanel launched their new SoHo store lat night with a host of the great and glam turning out, we loved Alex Chung (below), but mostly we couldn’t help but think how much we loved the grafitti style media wall the stars were getting papped against.

Was Chanel having a LV style Stephen Sprouse moment?  We couldn’t be sure, but we’d love it if it was . . .
